Comskip 0.77 posted

Post by erik »

Comskip version 0.77 is posted.
It can be downloaded from http://mk.kaashoek.com/gbpvr
Its currently in beta testing so be aware

Changes:
- Added a debug window showing in graphical way the processing and results of Comskip, enable with -w. Its a directX window so no normal behaviour ;-)
- Added intelligence for situations with logo only on commercials, logo everywhere and different logo's on commercials and show.
- Added intelligence for detecting the end of the previous show and the beginning of the next show
- Fps is now read from the mpg file, no need to adjust it anymore.
- If a .ref file with the same name and structure as the .txt file is present in the directory of the mpg file then it is used for comparison
- When verbose=10 a histogram of the volume is written to the log to help determin the max_volume
- Added cut_on_ar_change parameter in ini file
- live_tv=1 works again

I repaired a small bug that could cause comskip to crash when the debugwindow opens
Re-download comskip77.zip

I have SA running... why should I switch to comskip? (which i used to have, but seemed to crash things for me over time and wasn't as accurate!)

There could be several reasons to use it.
- Its free.
- It has more tuning options
- It has more options to create the result you want.
- It delivers better results under certain difficult broadcast conditions
There may also be reasons not to use it.
- Its more complex to tune.
- Its does not have a simple windows userinterface
- Some versions do crash and you don't want to help the maintainer of Comskip to solve those crashes.
- Its not developped by a NTSC user so NTSC is lagging somewhat behind

So its up to you what to chose :)

After some beta testing a number of hangups dan crashes in comskip 0.77 have been repaired.
The debugwindow is substantially extended to support navigation through the mpeg file and the tuning guide has started.
I recommend you to download comskip77.zip again.

:) That was good !!!!

ComSkip Rulez !!! Erik is a nice and friendly guy, who spend a lot of private
time to this project and the latest Version works very well with my gbpvr
frontend together - why should i use SA ?
I'm a PAL User and Erik is a PAL User - this fits perfectly together !!!

@Erik - please keep on doing this as long u can !!!

BTW - I tried to make some commercial for ComSkip on the Showcenter
Forum from Pinnacle - but they dont seem interested ...

http://webboard.pinnaclesys.com/read_me ... =299&lng=2

A friend of mine has one and there are so many things what his expensive
'Hardware-Box' cant do ... Dont know why he is so exited from it ...

I love my myHTPC as frontend for the background, my gbpvr for recording
tv and comskip to detect the nasty commercial !

I contacted the authors from Showcenter.
They are very interrested in Comskip but they are currently using DVR-MS and not mpg so Comskip can not be used for the moment.
Once they switched over to mpg they plan to incorporate Comskip.

You are right.
I mixed up pinnacle with another PVR software.
Pinnacle is using mpeg
The other is using DVR-MS.

I know this is entirely up to you Erik, but I wouldn't support DVR-MS ever.
Let the MCE world know that you don't like DRM any more than 99% of the users who are stuck with it.
Maybe this will add a little encouragement for people to use 3rd party software (such as gbpvr with comskip), instead of MCE and it's nasty junk. :)

No intention indeed to support DVR-MS ever.

Now you are here anyway I have some questions :)
Did you have time yet to do the big commercial skipper test?
How is comsip 0.77 doing for you?
Did the latest version improve on the NTSC performance?
Does the additional documentation help?
