I'm looking into it but it seems to have a rather complex cause

On Windows Server 2012 the problem is even worse. I get error: "The program can't start because api-ms-win-core-libraryloader-l1-2-0.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

Its a very complex problem caused by incompatible microsoft library updates I may not be able to solve

Can this not be resolved by static linking of the libraries?

Everything I can link statically is linked statically

Would it work to bundle the dependent dlls and place them in the comskip folder?

I have the same problem on Windows 8.1 x64 with all imaginable VS redistributables installed. 82_003 works, fortunately. Please produce a new build, which works on Windows 7 & 8.1 as well. Thanks.

As of which version of comskip did the problems start, only as of build 007?

Yes, there are no builds 004 to 006 in the download area and 003 works on Windows 8.1. I hope you have a machine or vm with windows 8.1 or 7 so you can see it yourself. Thanks.

Could you review this:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/window ... -libraries
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/window ... ib-onecore

This hopefully will solve it and retain compatibility with Windows 7, 8.1 & 10. I hope it is relevant to your problem. I am still using 82.003 and just donated so would like to upgrade to the latest build. Thanks.

Can someone test if installing this solves the problem?

Sorry I came across this page during my own troubleshooting and attempted installation on Windows 8.1 only to find out I already have this update (from Windows Update). I.e. installing this does not solve the problem.

I think the best thing for you is to get access to a PC or VM with an older Windows version and run the executable on it so you can see. Thanks.

I downloaded the update file for my Win7x64. When I ran it, it said the update was already applied and present on my system.

Shoot, I was hoping this would be the fix.

Same issue with 82_007. Didn't notice for a while and thought it was because I went through a headache of ntfs security issues. FYI, if anyone has an issue with file access- built in administrators group even full control is ignored by internal UAC bullcrap and defaults to user permissions or general users group permissions!
Create another group called admins and use that instead to give admin users full control
