WTV Files, Comskip and Linux

After Microsoft broke my Win 7 PVR by updating it with a telemetry "fix" I didn't ask for last night, I'm thinking its time to move towards ditching Microsoft altogether. I like Windows Media Center but I don't want to waste days at a time rebuilding it when their desperation to track everything I see becomes too much and they add more telemetry rubbish to wreck a perfectly working machine.
So I'm thinking of moving over to Debian.
Has anyone done this and does it work as well as WMC?
Whats the best PVR software? I'm interested in recording HD H264 DVB-T, scanning for Ads and also playing back the results.
Can Comskip read and WTV files in 64bit Debian Linux?
I am a donator and need H264, is there any difference between performance on Windows and Linux?
Thanks in advance

Fantastic!
Can anyone recommend Linux PVR software that is similar to Windows Media Center and is good for recording live TV?
