Hardware Decoding (Assist)

Here you can ask your questions on how to use Comskip for the detection of commercials. Also questions on how to remove commercials are welcome

Hey! I'm back.

When I first tried using vdpau with the $25 eBay card - a GeForce GT 610 - I got errors that seemed to indicate vdpau couldn't be initiated. I couldn't figure out wtf not, and I got distracted by other, less frustrating problems.

Then about a month ago I realized that although the card was in the computer and the drivers loaded, I had my monitor connected to the onboard VGA. Perhaps the video card not detecting an attached monitor was preventing it from initializing? So I wired it up, and now the comskip output doesn't have any warnings or errors in it. So that seems great.

Unfortunately it doesn't process faster, or use less CPU (I watched top) with vdpau enabled.

Here's with vdpau: Runtime was 20:41:52 -> 20:45:37, 3m 45s (225s). Command was

Code: Select all

comskip --ini=/etc/comskip.ini -v 10 --vdpau --hwassist /media/nextpvr/nextpvr-ota-recordings/FOX\ 31\ Morning\ News\ at\ 900am/FOX\ 31\ Morning\ News\ at\ 900am_20200910_09001000.ts
Without vdpau, the runtime was 21:00:53 -> 21:04:38, 3m 45s (). Command was

Code: Select all

comskip --ini=/etc/comskip.ini -v 10  /media/nextpvr/nextpvr-ota-recordings/FOX\ 31\ Morning\ News\ at\ 900am/FOX\ 31\ Morning\ News\ at\ 900am_20200910_09001000.ts
Log output (with a bit of the middle snipped out so my free pastebin account would accept it), is here: https://pastebin.com/F0Rb24Hd

Any pointers on what I could be missing? Or other things to try?
