comskip crashes
Re: comskip crashes
I have no AMD to test on, will ask if other AMD users see the same problem.
I intend to release a major update of the h.264 decoder this weekend.

Re: comskip crashes
Just Realized that the AMD does not support sse2 while my laptop does. Thanks for looking into my issue.

Re: comskip crashes
I'd like to report the exact same problem. Running Windows XP Pro on my two computers. The version 0.80 comskip works fine on the Dual Core, but it crashes before anything can happen (no debug console can even be seen) on the Athlon XP+ I use as my DVR. Going back to a 0.79 version on the AMD computer works fine.
This is to say, if I run comskip 0.80 without any target file, it will report back normally with the list of possible parameters, etc. However, when it starts on any target file, it will exit unceremoniously. No log file even gets started.
The windows error has this following information, which doesn't look like it's too useful:
Error signature:
AppName: comskip.exe AppVer: 1.4.6.0 ModName: comskip.exe
ModVer: 1.4.6.0 Offset: 0000c93c

Re: comskip crashes
The comcodec.dll file is compiled with SSE2 enabled to get best performance.
Will look into not doing that if you do not need h.264

Re: comskip crashes
That explains a lot! Thanks for looking into it. Looking forward to trying the .80 version with a recompiled comcodec.dll.
Re: comskip crashes
Using an AMD Athlon XP+ here too... so sounds like SSE2 may be the cause of the problem. The older version has been working fine so far, but I'd be interested in a non-SSE2 version of the DLL at some point.
Keep up the great work!

Re: comskip crashes
When processing h.264 you need SSE2 but I will change it such that if you do not process h.264 the DLL is not needed.
Re: comskip crashes
Well, I'm sorry to say but I'm having these crashes too. My info:
CPU: Amd Athlon XP/2000
OS: WinXP Pro SP3 US Eng with all critical and recommended patches applied.
Comskip versions tried: 80.020 crashes, 79.144 works perfectly (last one that does)
Logs: running comskip 80.020 with no mpg spec'ed, running comskip 80.020 with mpg spec'ed, output from Windows at crash. 2 is empty as comskip crashes, but Windows pops up the data in 3.
Didn't find an attachment thingie on this forum, so I'm suppliying links to a web server of mine below:
1. http://home-skynet.servehttp.com/files/ ... cified.txt
2. http://home-skynet.servehttp.com/files/ ... cified.txt
3. http://home-skynet.servehttp.com/files/ ... compat.txt
4. http://home-skynet.servehttp.com/files/ ... compat.zip
Let me know if you need more logs and/or info.
Thx for any help.

Re: comskip crashes
Released comskip build 0.80.21 in the release area without SSE2 (I hope), could someone test?
The donators version requires SSE2 for the h.264 decoder so it will NOT function at all without SSE2

Re: comskip crashes
Looks like you've done it!
This latest version is running and processing now on my AMD Athlon XP whereas before it just crashed before anything started.

Re: comskip crashes
Same here works fine thanks for fixing the problem.

Works like a charm! Thanks!

Re: comskip crashes
I just posted a question over in the SageTV forums about my comskip crashes.
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthr ... tcount=400
After reading this thread however it looks like my issue is due to having an Athlon XP+ processor.
Since this is my processor does this mean I will have to use the non-donator version of comskip and won't be able to process h.264 (.ts) files?

Re: comskip crashes
Indeed, as I am not able to change the comdec.dll

Re: comskip crashes
Hmmmm....I moved back to the non-donator version and my computer froze again while comskip was running at 100%. Now I'm wondering if it is a heat issue or something that is causing the entire computer to hang while comskip is running.
