Because of the huge size of the pages (55*40 cm) it was impossible to scan them on a conventional A4 scanner. A digital camera would have been nice but normal consumer cameras do not have sufficient resolution to show all the details on these documents (such as the small hairs still present on parts of the pages)

The approach taken was more difficult and did not lead yet to an optimal result.

Each page was scanned in four parts at a 150 DPI resolution. This is about 2 times the resolution of a standard computer monitor. The parts scanned where :Upper Left, Upper Right, Bottom left and Bottom Right. When trying to combine these four images into one big image some problems popped up. The scanner software does some automatic contrast adjustment resulting in the light to dark transition you see in the horizontal direction in the middle of the images. It also proved to be almost impossible to rotate the digital images until they where completely aligned. Therefore the "gluing" lines are still clearly visible. Maybe when more time would be available some more effort could be spend on improving this.
