Can Comskip remove commercials while watching TV live?

Hi,

We want to obtain a software that can removed commercials while TV is playing live, and replace those with our own commercials.

Is this possible with comskip?

Also, can it be done without using up a lot of disk space saving video files?

Thank you very much,

Eric

Short answer: No

Longer answer:
Comskip can process a stream, so no storing however output is delayed with at least the maximum size of a commercial.
This output can be coded with the PTS of the input stream so another application will have to buffer the video, read the output of comskip and replace the identified commercials and retransmit.
I do not know of the existence of such an application.

Hi Erik,

Thanks for your answer.

You said you did not know of the existence of such an application. Is that because it has never been done before, or that it cannot be easily done, or that it cannot be done at all?

We already have an application that plays a TV signal live from HDMI in and that can then stop the TV signal and play downloaded videos and then return to the TV signal. But what we wanted to do is to detect when the TV signal is playing a commercial and then to detect when the commercial is over so that our application only plays its downloaded videos during the commercial breaks.

What we were hoping was that there would be a technology that can detect this live, or close to live. Given that we already have an application that plays TV signal live and can interrupt the TV and play our downloaded Videos, and then go back to the TV signal, does it seem possible to add to this application the ability to detect when commercials start and end during live TV or delayed TV by only a few seconds? And if so, would comskip be a viable solution? Or do you know of another?

Thank you very much,

Eric

Delay with only a few seconds is impossible.
There are people that use comskip for live commercial detection and they accept that the minimum delay is always minimally once commercial

Hi Erik,

Is that delay the length of the entire commercial break, or the length of a single commercial in the commercial break?

When you say the output is delayed with at least the maximum size of a commercial, do you mean the entire set of commercials in a commercial break, that is, the time from when the regular show stops for commercials to the time it resumes with the show?

Thank you very much,

Eric

The size of a single commercial, and this can be up to 180 seconds or more
