Comskip Videoredo and VAP

I have been using Windows Media center /Ceton card with Videoredo 629, VAP 108 and Comskip 051 (donators) versions without any changes. I would like to hear from anyone on how to improve this setup. I get a lot of stalls from Us tv program recordings. I have read how i can use DVRM toolboolbox to alter comskip's settings so as to avoid using it on certain channels but do not know how VAP fits into this setup. Any ideas would be very much appreciated, the more basic (at least for now) the better. I am a decent learner.
